A hungry St. John's Edge (15-8) team looking to avenge their loss Friday night exploded out of the gate to defeat the Moncton Magic (14-12) 104-100 on Saturday night at Mile One Centre.
The Edge opened the game by going on a 10-and-0 run to lead the Magic early and did not look back as they cruised to their eighth win at home. The Edge led by as many as 17 points in the second quarter, and never found themselves trailing the Magic. Moncton came close late in the contest by making it a one-point game; however a dagger 3-pointer by Charles Hinkle with 18-seconds remaining pushed the Edge to the victory.
St. John's Edge:
Carl English led the way for the Edge with 25 points, adding four rebounds and eight assists. Charles Hinkle picked up a double-double as he made 22 points, with eleven rebounds. Desmond Lee was the Edge's player of the game with 15 points, 13 rebounds, a block and a steal.
Moncton Magic:
Anthony Anderson led the Magic with a game-high 26 points, adding three rebounds and three assists. Brent Jennings added 19 points for Moncton accompanied by one rebound.
Inside the Numbers
St. John's went 24-for-24 (100 percent) from the free-throw line, the club also picked up 51 rebounds. The Magic went 34-for-71 (48 percent) from the field goal line and scored 56 points inside the paint.
