Edge Partner With Iris Kirby House To SHINE THE LIGHT On Abuse

The St. John's Edge organization stands in solidarity with Iris Kirby House against domestic violence and we encourage you to join us this Saturday, February 22nd, 2020, as we 'Shine the Light' on abuse.

Each year the Iris Kirby House receives almost FIFTEEN THOUSAND calls to their crisis support line from individuals in this province who are affected by abuse.

Iris Kirby House first opened its door in 1981 as a sanctuary for women and children who are victims of abuse. Today they offer 47 shelter beds to women and children who need a safe place to go upon leaving their abusive homes. Their shelters, Iris Kirby House in St. John's and O'Shaughnessy House in Carbonear, operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and also provide victims with individual advocacy, counselling and nonjudgmental support.

There are many faces of abuse - it affects people from all walks of life. Nobody deserves to be abused and no child deserves to grow up in a home where abuse is present. Domestic violence is a reality in our Province and on Saturday we will wear purple to show our support of victims of domestic abuse. Please join us for this important cause.

Our team will be wearing commemorative purple jerseys that will be auctioned off and volunteers from the Iris Kirby House Foundation will be on hand Saturday to collect donations.
