Edge Welcome Island Storm to St. John's

St. John’s, NL – The St. John’s Edge are back at the Mile One Centre this weekend as they take on the Island Storm on Friday, December 14th and Sunday, December 16th.

The Edge are coming into this home stand with a 2-5 record, but their record is not reflective of how good this team really is. They sit with a losing record but hold a positive plus-minus in points overall on the season. They are coming off a big win in Cape Breton that saw them shoot at will while playing a complete game as a team.

The recent performances by Maurice Jones Sr. and Dez Lee, with the surging play of Carl English are factors that will come into play this weekend. With Jones Sr. his triple-double last week earned him the NBL Canada Player of the Week honor.
In the post the Edge cemented what should be a deadly combo down low with two recent signings, the first was Obie Oleka, the highly athletic forward has showed signs in practice that his athletic ability will be an asset for the Edge.
The other signing was non-other than Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis. The former NBA Champion and eight-year NBA veteran will suit up for the Edge this weekend for the first time. His size in the post and ability to rebound will be valuable going forward.

On the other side of the court, the Island Storm come into St. John’s with a 2-2 record sitting in the middle of the pack in the Atlantic Division. The story this weekend will be the return of Russell Byrd to St. John’s where he suited up for the Edge last season. Byrd was a low-minutes performer last season for the Edge but has been shooting the ball well for the Storm this season currently averaging 20.4 PPG.
The Storm lead the NBL in rebounds per game with them pulling down 58 a game. They also have one of the best field goal percentages in the NBL, even without the big forward Carl Hall who has been on the IR since the beginning of the season.

Expect this game to be a high scoring affair with both teams averaging over 100 points per game. The crowd will also see Glen ‘Big Baby’ Davis make his debut.
