River Lions Swamp the Edge, 88-99

The St. John's Edge (25-15) closed out their inaugural regular season Monday evening at Mile One Centre with a 99-88 loss to the Niagara River Lions (17-23). A strong second quarter from the River Lions was the difference as they outscored the Edge 27-15 en route to the win.

Player Awards:

St. John's Edge Player Awards were handed out Monday night, the awards and their recipients are as followed:

Newcomer of the Year: Charles Hinkle

Edge Community Player: Ransford Brempong

6th Man of the Year: Coron Williams

Defensive Player of the Year: Desmond Lee

Fan's choice award: Jarryn Skeete

Most Valuable Player: Carl English

St. John's Edge:

Desmond Lee-St. John's player of the game, led the way for the Edge narrowly missing a double-double with a team-high 13 points, and eight rebounds. Jarryn Skeete made 12 points, with three assists. Defensively, Ryan Reid chipped in with one block.

Niagara River Lions:

Guillaume Boucard led the River Lions putting up a game-high 20 points, adding seven rebounds and two assists. Devonta Pollard added 19 points for Niagara accompanied by eight rebounds.

Inside the Numbers 

St. John's went 10-for-36 (27.8 percent) from the 3-point line, the club also scored 40 points off the bench. The River Lions went 21-for-29 (72.4 percent) from the free-throw line and scored 48 points inside the paint.

The St. John's Edge begin their playoff quest Friday night at Mile One Centre for game one against the Windsor Express. Game two will be played Sunday afternoon at Mile One Centre before teams head to Windsor for game three. All games will be streamed live on www.sjedge.ca.
