Edge Players Join TEAM NL Wheelchair Basketball for Scrimmage

St. John’s, NL – On January 14th the St. John’s Edge had the opportunity to take part in a practice and scrimmage with the Newfoundland and Labrador Wheelchair Basketball team that will represent the province at the Canada Games in Red Deer, AB.

The players who joined in the scrimmage were Dez Lee, Jarryn Skeete, Diego Kapelan, Junior Cadougan, Satnam Singh, and Carl English. The Edge players also got a chance to try their hand at Wheelchair basketball, which they found very challenging and were able to understand the effort and dedication needed to be a part of this sport. The players also had the chance to meet and play with local Olympian Liam Hickey, who was taking part in the scrimmage and taught the players some of the finer points of the game.

Carl English spoke on behalf of the team to the athletes, “We want you guys and girls to know that you are an inspiration to us, this event was one that we did not have to force our guys to come to. It was something they wanted to be a part of and be here this evening to see what your sport is all about”. The players were able to share in the love of the sport with some of the top athletes this province has.

The Edge were proud to be able to take part in the practice and celebrate the athletes and lend a sense of encouragement as they look to bring home the gold at the 2019 Canada Games.
