Edge Can't Stop the Magic's Tricks.

By Michael Kennedy

Less than 24 hours after a gritty victory the St. John's Edge could not once again break the spell of the Moncton Magic. In what many described as a choppy affair the league's 1st place team showed veteran tenacity and outworked St. John's for a 127-113 victory in front of a Mile One Centre crowd of 2,200.

1st quarter - Bit of a slow start for the Edge as they struggled to establish their flow but veterans Junior Cadougan and Tyrone Watson stepped up to get them going. Both teams traded buckets with the Magic holding a 30-24 lead to end the quarter.

2nd quarter - It was all Montay Brandon for St. John's as he posted 10 points along with seven rebounds, including five on the offensive glass. St. John's took the lead halfway through but Moncton wouldn't quit and took a 59-55 lead into the break.

3rd quarter - Corey Allmond ignited the Magic with seven quick points to start while some tough play from Tyrone Watson kept the Edge within striking distance. Moncton showed their shooting touch by making over 60% of their attempts from the field and led by as much as 18 toward the end of the quarter.

4th quarter - First sequence of the period and the Edge would lose Brandon to a facial laceration that would end his night. A couple of quick threes by Corey Allmond would put the Magic up by 19 and St. John's just couldn't find an answer. Six points from Jeremiah Mordi in the final minutes would seal the deal as Moncton went on to a 127-113 win.

After the game Edge coach Steve Marcus said, "Tough one for us tonight. When you play the best team in the league you have to have a better effort than that and it starts with me. We will have a great week of practice heading into a tough four-game Ontario road trip."
